This trompe l'oeil commission was a first anniversary present for a loving husband from his loving wife, showing souvenirs they collected their first year together. It is a history and celebration of their courtship. She later told me that when she presented the piece he sat for the longest time looking at in quiet disbelief, with tears in his eyes. Comments like that make the hours of patient painting worthwhile.

The wood 'frame' you see is not a frame at all, but part of the painting, an illusion.
